THEFACESHOP Herb Day Cleansing Cream 5 Combined Cereal Review

Purchased Affiliate / Referral Link

I wanted to try a cream cleanser and I happened to be near a THEFACESHOP store. I eventually decided to get the Herb Day Cleansing Cream in 5 Combined Cereal for $8.71 USD after reading the ingredients and giving it a patch test. I also picked this over the other variants because this has the mildest scent out of the other Herb Day Cleansing Creams. I've been using this for over a month and eventually stopped.

What is it?

THEFACESHOP Herb Day Cleansing Cream 5 Combined Cereal is a cleansing cream that claims to be suitable for all skin types.

Water, mineral oil, dipropylene glycol, isopropyl myristate, cetearyl alcohol, polysorbate 60, cetearyl glucoside, sorbitan olinate, dimethecone, hordeum distichon (barley) extract (0.25%), panicum miliaceum (millet) seed extract (0.25%), oryza sativa (rice) extract (0.25%), glycine soja (soybean) seed extract (0.25%), phaseollus radiatus extract (0.25%), salvia officinalis (sage) leaf extract, aspalathus linearis extract, lilium candidum extract, anthemis nobilus extract, borago officinalis extract, centaurea cyanus flower extract, lauric acid, carbomer, butylene glycol, potassium hydroxide, disodium edta, caramel, methylparaben, etylparaben, propylparaben, fragrance, benzyl benzoate, linalool.
Mineral oil works very well as a makeup remover due to its ability to dissolve makeup. Polysorbate 60 is the emulsifier that will allow water and oil-like substances to mix, and I don't usually get reactions from polysorbates. There's the five different grain extracts that I am having trouble finding what they do topically, along with the other plant extracts.

I see isopropyl myristate as a possible acne trigger for me, and isopropyl myristate and fragrance as possible irritants.

This is a jar type packaging with 150 mL of product. It has an inner lid for hygiene and product spillage prevention. There was also a safety sticker, so you can be sure your new product has not been tampered with. I don't really like cleansers in a jar, as I will have wet hands when I come in contact with the cleanser, so I depotted some of the cleanser into a smaller jar.

The scent is a floral / fruity cross with a hint of citrus, probably owning to the linalool ingredient. I wouldn't call this a mild scent, as it doesn't dissipate even when you rinse it off.

This cream cleanser has an off white opaqueness.

It is creamy, but when you spread it, you can feel how oily it is.

I just massage the product onto my skin, and when I've massage enough to cover my face and dislodge the day's grime (usually about thirty seconds), I then rinse off. If I have makeup on, I tend to massage it for longer until I have dislodged the makeup and then rinse. After rinsing, I pat dry with a towel.

Just a dab of the cleanser on my arm.

The cleanser spread across my skin.

After rinsing and air drying my arm.

I don't think it's that visible in photo from directly above, but there's a sheen to my arm that shows how oily my skin still is from just rinsing and air drying the area where I smeared the product all over my lower arm. I did not towel dry for this swatch to show that the cream cleanser does not rinse off that nicely.

e.l.f. Lip Stain swatch left on for mere seconds, and then a quick swipe of THEFACESHOP Herb Day Cleansing Cream.

A light massaging of the cream cleanser.

After massaging and rinsing the cleanser off. Stain is still there.

I also used the e.l.f. Lip Stain to show how it does against makeup, as the stain has not even had time to set yet. As you can see, the photo right above shows that the cleanser is not that good at removing makeup.

Even though I have combo oily and dry skin, this cleanser is not drying, something I like about cream cleansers. In terms of cleansing, this product is on par with my CVS Hydrating Cleanser. As a makeup remover, it is subpar compared to oil cleansing with olive oil. It also does not rinse cleanly, which it should be doing because this is a cleanser and it should emulsify with water. And when I try to take off my eye makeup, it stings my eyes. Even if I don't directly use the cleanser on my eyelids, just indirectly massaging it all over my face will eventually migrate to my eyes and cause it to become itchy.

  • Good as an everyday cleanser.
  • Nondrying.
  • Jar packaging.
  • Stings eyes.
  • Don't like fragrance.
  • Fragrance causes sneezing.
  • Fragrance lingers after rinsing.
  • Does not rinse cleanly.

If you are are not easily irritated, can stand mildly strong fragrances, or don't mind wiping off cream cleansers, then this product will do just fine as an overall cleanser. But, this cleanser is no good for me. Its cleans well as an everyday cleanser, but it cannot remove makeup that well. It also stung my eyes if any of the product got onto my eyeballs, and the fragrance made me sneeze. Plus, it doesn't rinse off cleanly. You would have to pat or wipe your skin with a towel, and then rinse again to ensure that there's no more product left on your skin. At least this did not cause any new acne, which is surprising, considering some high comedogenic ingredients like isopropyl myristate. Overall, this is meh product for me I will not repurchase.

Memebox The Next Best Thing in Skin Care Unboxing

PurchasedAffiliate / Referral Link

My very first Memebox arrived! Yes~! It took me a while to make my first Memebox purchase after stalking the site for about half a year now, but I finally did! I'm probably going to stay on the Memebox bandwagon if the company does not stop curating these mystery boxes.

What is it?

Memebox is a South Korean based company that makes mystery cosmetic boxes that you can purchase until they run out of stock of that particular box.

As a skincare enthusiast, The Next Best Thing in Skin Care box is perfect for me! I was also curious as to what the next best thing in skincare is (or will be), and what Memebox feels is up to par on that aspect.

"So, what’s the next big secret to the Korean dewy, luminous skin? Memebox presents you with a box full of skin care trends and hot goodies that all Korean women are buzzing about! Say hello to a new generation of water packs, overnight sleeping masks, quick and easy multi-functional skin-conditioning sheets, and premium jelly capsule creams! Use this epic combination of fun, new age skin care miracles to discover the secret to gorgeous, youthful-looking skin."

This particular box is priced at $23 USD, and the lowest shipping cost of standard shipping is $6.99 USD. This would have cost $29.99 USD, but I purchased this with the Benton Value Set, and got $17 USD off with store credit and a discount code. This means I paid $42.99 USD for the skincare and the Benton boxes!

I ordered this box on Nov. 19th with standard shipping. It shipped Nov. 28th due to the stated shipping date that starts on the 28th, and I received this package on Dec. 12th. All packages come with a tracking number.

Memebox sends their packages in a pink bubble mailer. Once you open up the bubble mailer, you get a pink box. They also had packaging tissue within the box so the items will not rattle within the packaging.

It sucks that this box does not have an info card, but instead, has the url of all the info here.

Onto the goodies~!

And here's everything laid out. Look at all this stuff!

Lassie’el Night Miracle Sleeping Pack in Pearl and Egg
Full Size Value: ~$6 USD for one packet (two halves, 4g each half)
Product Size Value: ~$12 USD for both packets

These are adorable! They are sleeping packs, overnight moisturizing masks that are meant to be left onto the skin as the last step in a skincare routine. I got the Pearl and the Egg one. They even come with little spoons! Sadly, I don't see an ingredients list.

Blithe Patting Water Pack in Soothing & Healing Green Tea, Rejuvenating Purple Berry, and Energy Yellow Citrus & Honey
Full Size Value: ~$46 USD for 200mL
Product Size Value: ~$6.90 USD for six 5mL packs

These water packs are meant to be added to a container of water so that you can pat the solution onto your skin and is meant to replace a sheet mask. I find that pretty wasteful, and I will probably just take a spritz bottle and mix the packet with some water or watery solution and a preservative to create a mist or some sort of moisturizer. The mist sounds much more refreshing and less wasteful than just using the flavored water to wash my face... Plus, wouldn't putting the packet contents into a basin of water dilute the ingredients? How will that even be a replacement for a sheet mask?

Shara Shara Green Tea Seed Magic Balm
Full Size Value: ~$20 USD for 25 mL
Product Size Value: ~$20 USD for 25 mL

This smells terribly waxy, like crayons mixed with olive oil... I still haven't tried it yet, as I currently have other balms to use. I also don't see how this product is the next best thing. It's just a bland balm. And I cannot believe this rinky dink thing costs around $20 (depending on the seller)! Even Sephora sells better balms for less.

Dr. MJ Moisture Bounce Collagen Capsule Cream
Full Size Value: ~$54 USD for 50g
Product Size Value: ~$54 USD for 50g

This cream has pink capsules in it! But, the scent is kind of overbearing, a very strong floral smell. I don't think I can put this on my face without the feeling of retching.

AHC Hologram Active Gen Serum
Full Size Value: ~70 USD for 50mL
Product Size Value: ~70 USD for 50mL

The only thing innovative about this product is the double helix that in the middle of the serum that is not showing so well in the photo. The spiral is also iridescent and catches the light in rainbows. Besides the cool packaging of the serum with a double helix in the middle, the product itself offers no inventiveness with its ingredients.

IASO Intensive Clear Conditioner Sheets
Full Size Value: $12 USD for 15 sheets
Product Size Value: $12 USD for 15 sheets

Really, Memebox? Wet wipes? And for the ridiculous price, too. I can't even find an ingredients list for this and why it is so unique, so this is a meh item right now.

XO MEMEBOX Hydrogel Mask
Full Size Value: $3 USD for 1 mask
Product Size Value: $3 USD for 1 mask

This is probably the only thing that was right on theme, a gel mask! This will be my first gel mask, as I am just fine with the traditional papery masks and never really had the urge to try gel masks. It's nice that I get to try a new type of product.

Customer Service

This is an update because I decided to contact Memebox about the Shara Shara Green Tea Seed Magic Balm on Dec. 30th:
Hi Memebox,

I recently purchased The Next Best Thing in Skin Care Memebox, and I wanted to ask if my Shara Shara Green Tea Seed Magic is suppose to smell waxy, like crayons or olive oil. On top of that, there is this very sticky layer on top of the product that feels like glue and does not blend at all into my skin.

Thank you.
Memebox responded on the same day with:
Hi Lekorithe,

We are so sorry your box didn't come in perfect condition!

We've added $4 points to your account as compensation for sharashara lipstick. You can use your points just as cash up to $50 per purchase on any item available on our site! (points will be uploaded within 24 hours)

Thank you for understanding, enjoy Memebox :)

Happy Holidays,

h Memebox Global Team
But I asked about the Shara Shara balm and not their lipstick? And only 4 Memepoints for a supposed price of $25 that Memebox says retails for on their online info card? Additionally, they did not dispense my points within the 24 hour timeframe. I contacted them about 5 business days later to ask again through their online contact form. When I didn't receive a response, I went back to the first thread of conversation we had and rated the customer service as "bad, I'm unsatisfied" and I noted that I had not received my 4 Memepoints within the 24 hours since the last message. I never got a response from either messages, but I was credited with 8 Memepoints to my account.

Total Box Value: $177.90 USD

The total value of this is ridiculous! Consider the more probable cost of the mask packs as $4 for both, the Shara Shara balm for $7, and the conditioner sheets for $4. This would amount to $148.90, still around a six fold increase in value for the contents than for the purchase price of the mystery box.

I feel that Memebox was not on theme with the Shara Shara balm, as it is nothing unique. The capsule cream and the gen serum have great packaging and are the biggest items, so I will give Memebox that. The patting water mix is a new idea, but I would not use it the way it was instructed to be used. The little mask packs are pretty handy to have around, though, as an extra moisturizing step. For the next best thing in skincare, I thought it would include skincare ingredients that are trending right now, like bee venom, snail mucin, fermented things, syn-ake, or starfish, but I guess Memebox and I have different opinions.

Even though this review seems pretty negative and I am feeling meh about this box, I don't think this is that bad of a box and I would like this box even more if it was on theme. I feel that this is more of an overall skincare box by routine steps, not a next best thing box. Despite the difference in opinions, this is my first Memebox, and I am glad that this is the first one because I am definitely willing to try all of the items because the disappointment from this box stems from me feeling that Memebox veered off the theme for some items, not that the items are rubbish. I'll have to see if the items are any good at a later point in time.

Overall, I am content with this box.

Memebox Benton Value Set Unboxing

PurchasedAffiliate / Referral Link

Memebox had a value set on their site, and seeing as that I had tried Benton's products and like them, I decided to purchase the Benton Value Set. Along with this whole set, I also purchased my first Memebox, which is currently being shipped.

What is it?

Memebox is the "world's No.1 K-beauty store" and "curates only the most trusted, best-loved Korean beauty products at everyday prices."

Benton derived its name from "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and claims to be a natural cosmetics company. I find it very misleading that they claim other companies are using "chemical ingredients" and that they are using "natural ingredients." Everything in this tangible universe is pretty much a chemical, so Benton is most definitely using chemicals. Perhaps the word they are looking for is synthetic?

Brochure on Benton's products.

This originally costs $30 USD for the set and shipping, and with discounts, I recieved this for around $21.50 USD.

I ordered this box on Nov. 19th, it shipped Nov. 28th, and arrived on Dec. 3rd. All packages come with a tracking number.

This set arrived in a pink bubble mailer. Inside the bubble mailer is the pink box shown below.

The entire box's contents.

Snail Bee High Content Essence
~$15USD per 60mL
This is a gel type product and it is a light moisturizer that makes my skin hydrated, but needs another moisturizer on top. I don't mind layering moisturizers at all, and I tend to do so because directly putting on a creamier product is too heavy for me.

Snail Bee High Content Steam Cream
~$15USD per 50g
This product is thick and stiff like cooled coconut oil when it is below room temperature. Unless you warm it up in your hands, it is hard to spread, but I like this cream as a heavy duty moisturizer and will be the last moisturizer in my skincare routine.

Snail Bee High Content Mask Pack
~$2USD per mask
I enjoy using sheet masks, and this will be my first time trying this product out. Hope that I don't have any adverse effects from this.

O& Soap Berry Bubble Cleanser
This is the free gift from Memebox! Sadly, I don't do foaming cleansers and this one has a high pH of about 8.5 so I will not be using this.

If I bought everything separately, the Benton products would total $50 USD (Memebox values this set as $54 USD) and I would have to pay shipping. For $30 USD with shipping included and a gift, this set is a great value!

I will be using all the Benton products because I picked them out and I already like Benton. I understand there was a contamination issue in Mar. 2014 with the Snail Bee Essence either from the production facilities or from preservatives that do not work as well because they claim that they only use "natural" preservatives, whatever that means. But that issue has been resolved and I have good results from using Benton's moisturizers from some samples I received, especially during the winter that I will still continue to use Benton's products.

Overall, I am very pleased with this set from Memebox for the value and the extra item they gifted me.

e.l.f. Site Haul

Purchased Affiliate / Referral Link

Hey friends! I made my first e.l.f. purchase during one of their sales that I took advantage of and thought I'd share. They had a half off anything $3 and up that I coupled with their free shipping over $40.

What is it?

eyes lips face is an affordable cosmetics brand that is great for anyone's budget.

My haul costs $40.50 USD plus tax. I also got cashback from using a Discover credit card and Ebates.

Shipping is within the United States with free standard shipping after a certain amount. More info here.

You will receive a tracking number.

I ordered my package on August 7th, and arrived in less than a business week.

e.l.f. only has a giant plastic drawstring bag where they stuff all the products in. There's no padding to protect the products.

Studio Lash Collection in Flirty
$3.00 USD
As you can see from the photo, I used the false lashes by cutting it up and sticking that small false lash to the outer corners of my eyes. These lashes looked awfully unnatural because the longest strands are way too long. Plus, the tweezers are terrible and you're better off using your own tweezers or fingers to put them on.

Studio Makeup Remover Pen
$3.00 USD
This pen works great for a small mistake, much like using a cotton swab with some makeup remover, but in a more convenient fashion.

Studio Lip Lock Pencil
$3.00 USD
I still haven't tried this out yet, but I'm curious as to why the pencil is so thick?

Studio Lip Liner & Blending Brush in Natural
$3.00 USD
I was able to swatch this before I bought it, and the Natural color is pretty much the color of my lips. The brush is also a better lip brush than the actual Studio Retractable Lip Brush, as the fibers are stiff but soft, dense, and long, enabling you to put on a lip product and spread it easily without the fibers giving too much or it being too dense that it does not move the product at all.

Studio Mascara Primer
$3.00 USD
This product does its job quite well! It does not flatten a curl, and it does prime your lashes.

Studio Kabuki Face Brush
$6.00 USD
This is such a soft brush, but I haven't used it yet.

Studio Eyelash Curlers
$3.00 USD
This is a terrible eyelash curler for me. The radius of curvature is too small, making it only suitable for those with more bulging eyes or deepset eyes. I need something with a flatter curve. Besides the curvature issue, it also does not grab all of my lashes, as it misses both the lashes at the inner and the outer corners.

Studio Makeup Mist & Set
$3.00 USD for 60 mL
This looks like an interesting product, so I bought it. I still haven't tried it out yet.

Studio Makeup Lock & Seal
$3.00 USD for 15mL
I haven't tried it yet because I wanted to use it on loose eyeshadows to see how well it performs.

Brushes galore!

Studio Powder Brush
$3.00 USD

Studio Complexion Brush
$3.00 USD

Studio Blush Brush
$3.00 USD

Studio Pointed Foundation Brush
$3.00 USD

Studio Mineral Powder Brush
$3.00 USD

Studio Small Stipple Brush
$3.00 USD

Studio Small Tapered Brush
$3.00 USD

Studio Flawless Concealer Brush
$3.00 USD

Studio Concealer Brush
$3.00 USD

More brushes

Studio Eyeshadow "C" Brush
$3.00 USD

Studio Contour Brush
$3.00 USD

Studio Small Angled Brush
$3.00 USD

Studio Flat Eyeliner Brush
$3.00 USD

Studio Small Precision Brush
$3.00 USD

Studio Small Smudge Brush
$3.00 USD

Studio Angled Eyeliner Brush
$3.00 USD

Studio Retractable Lip Brush
$3.00 USD
This brush has a circular cross-section, and tapers off to a point. I find this to be a terrible brush. It doesn't hold onto whatever lip product you have on it very well, distributes the product poorly, leaves streaks, covers very little area at once, and you need to swipe this with some pressure to get the products on your lips.

e.l.f. products are such a good deal, even without their sales. They are pretty noob friendly due to the prices, and I don't have much duds so far. I had no problems with the site, the order, or the shipping. Overall, I am very satisfied.

If you go through Ebates, you can get some cashback. It's $10 credit to your account when you first sign up! I will also get $10 of credit.

Etude House Official Site Haul

Hey everyone! So recently, Etude House had a grand opening for their global site. Of course, I took advantage of the opening because they were giving away a tote bag and some samples for the first 1000 customers.

What is it?

Etude House is a Korean beauty brand that emphasizes the "play" aspect of makeup. You can check out their brand story here!

My haul costs $44.15 USD with shipping and a 15% off discount.

Shipping is by destination, weight, and shipping method. Check out Etude's shipping table.

You will receive a tracking number with either standard packet or EMS. They marked my order as a gift and put the exact value of purchased items excluding shipping.

I ordered my package on Oct. 1st. The package was in Incheon on Oct. 11th, and my package arrived on Oct. 24th.

As you can see from the image below, Etude House bubble wrapped every cosmetics product! Only the bag was left out of any safety protection, but that is obviously understandable.

Onto the haul!

Box opened. The contents inside, still wrapped. So much bubble wrap!

No more bubble wrap! Everything laid out.

SUNSHINE IN SPOON in S.M.Y Sugar Apple and S.M.C Soy Bean
$1.00 USD for 14mL
These just looked fun to get, and it was inexpensive.

Every Month Cleansing Foam in #9 Rice
$3.50 USD for 100mL
I purchased this because I need a better cleanser and it was relatively inexpensive. I couldn't find any pH testing done for this so I blindly bought it and pH tested it. It came out to be about 8 to 9... Not happy about that and something to consider if you are iffy about high pH skincare products.

Play Therapy Sleeping Pack in Moist Up
$8.00 USD for 150mL
I recently patch tested this and it is lighter than my creams, even though it should be the last thing to put on your skin right before bed. If I use this in my routine, I'm probably going to use this product some days and rotate it with my current creams on other days.

Missing U Hand Cream in Panda and Harp Seal
$4.50 USD for 30mL
One for me and one for a friend.

Oh Happy Day Hand Bouquet Rich in Vitamin and Water
$3.00 USD for 25mL
I got these one for $1.50 each. I needed hand creams for on-the-go, and these seem to be the perfect size for that.

Dear Darling Lip Tint in 1 Berry, 2 Real Red, and 3 Vampire Red
$4.00 USD for 5g
These smell like cough syrup and though you're not suppose to eat them (they get on your tongue anyways), they taste very bitter. When they dry off after you've applied them, your lips are slightly tacky. They wipe off as easily as lipsticks wipe off, so I'm not upset about its longevity, but I expected them to last longer because they are suppose to stain. Maybe I need to exfoliate my lips better?

The freebies!

Sparkling Toc!s All In One Gel
Precious Mineral BB Cream Blooming Fit in N02
Moistfull Collagen Cream
Moistfull Collagen Peeling Wash
Milky You Cleansing Foam
Baking Powder Pore Cleansing Foam
Baking Powder B.B Deep Cleansing Foam
Go Back To The Best Time of Your Skin Firming Eye Cream
Hello Raspberry & Cranberry Wash

And the last item on the freebies list is the tote bag! As you can see, the bag is pretty textured. That's because it thick and sturdy, and seems pretty durable. I hope that it does last as long as it looks.

I picked these items so of course, I will enjoy the majority of them. The one dud so far is the Every Month Cleansing Foam, so I hope I can repurpose it or hand it to someone who does not mind the high pH. Other than that, I am very happy with the haul and with the Etude House site itself. Customer service was also great! I did not know how to find out my shipping status or tracking number, and when I emailed Etude House, they gave me my shipping status, my tracking number, which site to input said tracking number, and when I should be expecting my package. Thank you, K. H. Lee and Etude!
